The Heroes in Health Care - Laura Montes Memorial Scholarship

The Heroes in Healthcare Scholarship is in the Memorial of Laura Montes, a true Hero in Healthcare. Ms. Montes was a single mother of four and started her career in the medical field as a CNA. Through the years she continued her education and became a medication aide. She later attended Hill College and became an LVN. For many years her focus was on geriatric patients and local nursing homes. During the pandemic, she worked many long hours and extended periods of time without time off due to staffing shortages within the COVID unit. She not only cared for her patients but also helped to encourage her co-workers. In late December 2020, Ms. Montes tested positive for COVID-19 and passed away due to complications from the virus. Laura Montes sacrificed so much to help and care for others. This scholarship was created to help others reach the same goals and continue to help care for other people.

The Heros in Healthcare – Laura Montes Memorial Scholarship recipient must live in Hill County and have been accepted into either the LVN or RN programs. The student(s) must have and maintain a 2.50 GPA for the LVN program or a 3.00 GPA for the RN program. The funds from the scholarship may go to pay toward tuition, fees, supplies, and/or book.
